ER TWILIGHT ZONE -- PROBLEMS, ALIENS AND DEATH

written by Strausser

SCENE ONE (Int. Doctor’s lounge. Ross is sitting on a couch with his head in his hands. Enter Greene) Greene: Somebody’s not too chipper today. Ross: (without looking up) Don’t make fun, I’m not having a very good day. Greene: What’s wrong this time? Ross: It’s Carol. (Greene walks over to Ross and sits next to him) Greene: What did she do this time? Forget to say "I love you" when you woke up this morning? Ross: No, it’s not as easy as that. She. . .(begins to sob) Greene: (puts his hand around Ross’s shoulders) Aww. It can’t be that bad. Ross: She dumped me, Mark. (puts head against Greene’s shoulder and begins to cry) Greene: She did what? I’ll kill her. Ross: No, Mark, don’t do that. Then I’ll have to throw myself in front of the el just to be dead with her. And you don’t want to look at my severed corpse at my funneral, do you? Greene: No, I guess you’re right. So, why did she dump you? Ross: (looking up) She said that she wants to try new things. Greene: What the heck is that supposed to mean? Ross: She found somebody else. Greene: Who? I’ll kill him. Ross: Maggie Doyle. Greene: The lesbian? Ross: Yeah. She dumped me so that she could go out with the lesbian. I’m so upset Mark. What am I going to do without her? Greene: Well, I am just going to have to introduce you to some of my women, aren’t I? Ross: I don’t want any of your women, Mark. I just want Carol back. Greene: Aww, hush. I know. I’ll have a little chat with her, and see if I can straighten things out, literally. Ross: (trying to smile) You’ll do that for me? Greene: Sure. What’s a best friend good for if he can’t get your girlfriend away from the girl who stole her. SCENE TWO (Int. Cafe. Carter sitting at table drinking a cup of coffee. Enter Edson) Carter: (without looking up) Good morning, Dale. (takes a sip of his coffee) (Edson sits down beside Carter and puts his hands upon the table) Edson: (looking sad) I have something to tell you. Carter: (smiling, but still not looking up) You have replaced me with a woman. Edson: No, it’s not quite that simple. Carter: You’re already married. Edson: No, it’s not that either. Carter: You are really an alien from outer space here to suck the brains from all the doctors in Cook County General so that you can bring them back to your home planet and share them with the other brain-suckers of your community. Edson: No. I wish that was the case. Carter: (lifting his coffee) Well then, what. . . Edson: (interrupting) I’m being transferred. (Carter looks up at Edson for the first time, and drops the coffee cup. It shatters on the floor) Carter: (shocked) You’re being what? Edson: Transferred, moved, sent away. So-long-Dale-it-was-nice-knowing-you. Carter: They can’t do that. Edson: Well, it seems they are. Carter: Where. . . Edson: Antarctica. Carter: (angrily) Who needs a surgeon in Antarctica? Edson: Apparently, that’s where they are sending me. Some sort of secret military base, where a lot of atomic bomb testing takes place. I guess they’ll be needing a surgeon to patch up the people who get injured from the bomb drops. (Carter blinks, and takes Edson’s hands into his. They turn to face each other.) Carter: No, this can’t be. Not now. I’ll kill them. Edson: You can’t kill them. If you do that, then you will go to prison, and there will never be any hope of me seeing you again. Carter: You’re right. But what am I supposed to do? Just sit here like a lump and miss you for the rest of my life. I’m too strong to do that. I’m coming with you. Edson: John, as much as I would love for you to come with me, you can’t. There is only room for one in the raft that’s going to take me to Antarctica. Unless you want to swim behind it, but I wouldn’t want to put you through that. (Carter takes his hands away from Edson’s) Carter: Fine then! Leave me! See if I care. I’ll find somebody to take your place. You know, since you are leaving, I should start looking now, shouldn’t I? Edson: Please, John. Don’t take it like that. I’m, I’m sorry. I never meant for this to happen. Carter: Well, if you weren’t such a weak little nothing, maybe this wouldn’t have happened to you. Maybe they would have left you alone, because they knew you wouldn’t stand for a transfer. (stands up) You don’t deserve to breathe the same air as I do. Stay away from me. (leaves angrily) (Edson sits at the table, looking down. Tears begin to fall down his face. He wipes them away, stands and exits) SCENE THREE (Int. Admin desk. Lewis standing, looking bland. Greene approaches and stands in front of her) Greene: Hey, Susan. Have you seen Carol? (Lewis shrugs) Greene: Oh, don’t tell me you are upset too. Lewis: (crying hysterically) Oh, Mark! Little Chloe’s father wants her back. (falls into Greene’s arms) I don’t know what I am going to do! Greene: (wraps his arms around Lewis and strokes her hair) I didn’t think Little Chloe had a father. I just thought she was just a miracle of science. Lewis: No Mark, she has a father. And he wants her back. I’m not ready to lose my baby. Greene: Who’s the father? Lewis: Michael Jackson. Greene: (shocked) Michael Jackson! But I thought he couldn’t have kids? Lewis: Well, apparently he can. He is the father of Little Chloe and he has the money to prove it. Greene: I didn’t know you had sex with Michael Jackson. Lewis: I must have, since he says he is the father. Greene: What are you going to do? Lewis: I don’t know Mark. I guess the only thing I can do is take him to court to prove that I am a better parent that he can ever be. I would never molest my daughter. Greene: Neither would he. Now if you had a son. . . Lewis: Stop trying to be cute, Mark. This is serious. I’m going to lose this custody battle. I won’t be able to live without Little Chloe. Greene: I’m sure that any judge will be able to see that you are the better parent. Besides, who listens to Michael Jackson anyway. Lewis: I hope you’re right Mark. I hope for Little Chloe’s sake, that you are right. Greene: I’m always right. (smiles) SCENE FOUR (Int. Supply Closet. Doyle and Hath are getting supplies together) Hath: (looking through boxes) We’ll need ten of these, five of these, and seven of these. Doyle: You’re so cute when you count. Hath: (looking up) I know. Doyle: So what made you decide to dump Doug? I mean, you guys have been going out since before I came here. Hath: I just felt it was time for a change. Besides, I think you are much more interesting. You won’t ever take me to the opera, will you? Doyle: (laughing) Doug took you to the opera? Hath: Please, don’t remind me. (Doyle puts her arms around Hath’s waist. They look at each other, smiling) Doyle: I won’t. Don’t worry. (She kisses Hath) (Enter Weaver) Weaver: Hey! We have rooms for that, you know. Hath: (laughing and turning towards Weaver) I’m sorry, Kerry. We couldn’t help ourselves. Weaver: Do you think I could join in? (Hath and Doyle look wide-eyed atWeaver) Weaver: I’m kidding, I’m kidding. Sheesh! Everyone always takes me so literally. (takes a box from the top shelf) Well, you two have fun. I am going to bring these to Dr. Anspaugh. (she winks at them, then exits) Doyle: Do you think Kerry has a thing for Anspaugh. Hath: That wouldn’t surprise me. Everything about this place is messed up. Doyle: (pulling Hath close to her again) Everything, except us. (smiles.) (They kiss again) SCENE FIVE (Ext. Roof. A large, circular shaped craft lands there. Two gray-colored aliens exit the ship, looking like they just came out of the X-Files. The first alien is Donner and the second alien is Jenner) Donner: Where are we? Did you get us lost again? Jenner: (looking at a map) Well, I did make a u-turn at the Alpha Hydro star cluster, but that should have been right, according to the map. Donner: (looks at the map) You’re holding it upside down, you idiot! Jenner: (turns the map the right way) Well, then, we are lost. But not to fear. I can tell you in a moment, exactly where we are. (studies map) Earth. Donner: Earth? Why would we want to be on Earth? (sirens blasting from ground) Jenner: Well, this is a hospital. I can tell from the sirens. You can have one of the doctors take a look at that hangnail. Donner: (putting his arm behind his back) Leave my deformalities alone. Besides, who on Earth is going to want to look at an alien’s hangnail. They’ll probably just shove us off to Roswell. Jenner: Don’t say that. That only happens in the movies. In real life, humans are just as friendly as everyone else in the universe. Donner: Except for the Flease. Jenner: (shuddering) Please, don’t remind me. SCENE SIX (Int. Anspaugh’s office. Anspaugh is sitting at desk reading over charts. Enter Weaver.) Anspaugh: Kerry, so nice to see you. How are you doing? Weaver: I’m doing very well. And how about you? Anspaugh: Same ole, same ole. We need something exciting to happen in this ER. Everything that comes through the doors are so predictable. I want something unpredictable for once. (Weaver limps over to the desk and sits in a chair) Weaver: Well, be careful what you wish for. You just might get it. Anspaugh: Well, I am careful, and I know what I want. Excitement, something new and interesting. Wouldn’t you like that too, Kerry. Weaver: Yes. I guess so. But this job is so fulfiling already. Who could ask for more? (Anspaugh stands and circles around desk, to sit in a couch that is across from the desk) Anspaugh: Well, I could. But enough about me, what about you? Weaver: (limps towards the couch and stands in front of Anspaugh) I’m doing well, as usual. Nothing new in my life. Well, almost nothing. Anspaugh: You know, Kerry, I have been wondering. What is wrong with your leg? Weaver: You know, I don’t know that. (limps to desk and leans crutch against it) I have just been using this thing for my whole life. (does a cartwheel and lands with her legs spread over Anspaugh’s lap) I don’t really need it. (Anspaugh looks shocked. He says nothing, and looks into Weaver’s eyes. She puts her hands around his neck, and starts to lean towards him. They close their eyes, positioning their lips for a kiss. Suddenly, an intercom blasts) Intercom: Dr. Anspaugh. Dr. Anspaugh. Please report to Trauma 1. Dr. Anspaugh to Trauma 1. (Weaver removes her hands from Anspaugh and moves off him. He stands and walks to the door) Anspaugh: We will continue this discussion later, Kerry. (smiles) Weaver: (smiles) I know we will. SCENE SEVEN (Int. Trauma Room 1. Benton and Gant standing over a gurney, with a man on it, hooked to a respirator. Enter Anspaugh. He looks over the man, checks a chart, and looks up at Benton) Anspaugh: Why was I called here Dr. Benton? This patient seems to be fine. Benton: He is Dr. Anspaugh. But I thought you should take a look at him. His breathing rate is fine, but I can’t seem to find his heartbeat. It’s the strangest thing I have ever seen. (Anspaugh takes the man’s wrist, tries to find a pulse, and can’t. He drops the hand and looks at Benton) Anspaugh: I don’t understand either. (The man opens his eyes and removes the respirator with a swift hand.) Man: Good afternoon, doctors. I am Death. (Benton, Anspaugh and Gant stare at him with wide eyes) Gant: Death? As in the Grim Reaper? Death: Well, yes. If you must call me that. Why was I hooked up to that machine? Benton: You fell down in front of the ER. You were brought in and hooked to the respirator because of shallow breathing. Death: Oh. I would have been fine if you had just brought me in. I don’t really need to breathe. I don’t even have a pulse. Gant: Yeah, we saw that. Benton: What are you doing here? Death: I’m here to look for someone. Someone I need to take with me to the other side. Gant: Why would you come here? Nobody dies around here. Anspaugh: (quiet, to Benton) I’m not sure that this guy is in the right mind. Can you get him a psych counsel? Benton: Of course, Dr. Anspaugh. I could talk to him. Anspaugh: Yeah, that’s a good idea. Benton: (to Gant) Dennis, take Mr. Death to a free room. (to Death) I think you should stay here for observations. I will be with you as soon as I can. Death: (sighs) All right, Dr. Benton. I’ll stay. (smiles) Benton: Good. Gant: C’mon, Death. We’re going for a ride. (pushes gurney out of Trauma Room) Anspaugh: Thanks for taking him, Peter. Benton: No problem. Anything for my patients. (exits) Anspaugh: (to himself) What a great team I have here at Cook County. Good thing I didn’t take that transfer to Antarctica. SCENE EIGHT (Int. Admitting desk. Hath standing behind desk next to Jerry. Jerry on phone, Hath on a computer) Jerry: Yes, that’s right. I’d like to donate all my clothes to Good Will. Yeah, seven bags. Money? (laughs) Of course not. I only do things for charity. You’re welcome. God bless you too. (hangs up and smiles) (Greene approaches admin. desk and walks behind Hath. He taps her on the shoulder. She jumps) Hath: My God, Mark. I could have a heart attack! (slaps his arm) Greene: Well, this is a hospital. Best care in the world if you did. Hath: With you around, I’m sure. (Greene smirks) Hath: So what’s up? Greene: I heard about what happened between you and Doug. Hath: That’s old news, and so is Doug for that matter. I needed to move on. Keep going. Doug was just pulling me down. Greene: That’s not a nice thing to say about the man you love. Hath: ‘Loved’. That’s the word. I loved him, Mark. I love Maggie now. Greene: You are so unpredictable. Hath: That’s why everyone wants to be with me. Greene: Well, not everyone. I can’t stand you, and you know it. But you are breaking Doug’s little heart. I think you should give him one more chance. I know you still love him. Hath: Well, yeah. I do still love him. But I am very attracted to Maggie, and I always go with my first instinct. Greene: I think your first instinct is to commit murder, but you don’t do that. Hath: Shut up, Mark. Your first instinct is to have sex with every woman in the world, but you haven’t done that. Greene: (smiles) Yet. Hath: Well, the point is, is that Maggie is right for me at this time in my life. If anything changes, I’ll give you a call. Greene: Did you choose to be born without a heart, or did you just forget to stand in line when God gave them out? Hath: I don’t have blonde hair. Greene: That’s because you dye it black. SCENE NINE (Int. Waiting room. Jenner and Donner standing, staring at patients who are staring at them right back. They huddle next to each other, a bit worried and frightened.) Jenner: I don’t think I like this place. Donner: I know, I know. Jenner: I don’t think we should even mention your hangnail. Donner: Shut up about that. I don’t want everyone to know. Jenner: We are strangers in a strange land. Donner: Even worse, I think I just saw Rod Serling pass by. Jenner: No, that was Bob Saget. Donner: No way! I love that guy! (Enter Weaver, limping) Weaver: Excuse me, may I help you. I am Dr. Weaver. Jenner: Um, yeah. We are not from around here. Weaver: I can see that. (smiles) Follow me. I’ll take you to somewhere more secluded. (Weaver walks to exam room 3, with Jenner and Donner following her. They get stares, but nobody says anything. Inside the room, Donner sits on the bed and Jenner stands.) Weaver: So, what seems to be the problem. Donner: Well, we landed on the roof of the building, and we can’t seem to get our ship started. Jenner: Not only that, but he has a really bad hangnail. (Donner looks at Jenner angrilly) Weaver: Let me see your hangnail. (Donner reluctantly gives Weaver his hand. She looks over his long fingers) Weaver: I think I see the problem. Don’t worry, I can fix that right up. Wait right here. I’ll be right back. (exits) Donner: Thanks a lot, Jenner. Jenner: What? She’s a nice woman. Donner: Yeah, I guess so. She seems harmless enough. You think we could repay her by fixing her leg? Jenner: Yeah. I think we can do that. SCENE TEN (Ext. In front of ER doors. Carter standing outside, hands in pockets. Enter Ross and stands next to Carter.) Ross: Rough day? Carter: Naw. Just needed a breath of fresh air. Ross: Me too. (They are silent, staring out into space.) Ross: This sucks. Carter: Don’t have to tell me. Ross: You too? Carter: Yeah. But don’t tell anyone. Ross: I won’t. Carter: (looks at Ross) So what happened with you? Ross: Carol dumped me for Maggie Doyle. Carter: That’s funny. (Ross gives Carter the evil eye) Carter: I’m sorry, but it is. Ross: Well, I don't find it funny. I’m miserable without her. She was my entire life. I’m nothing without her. Carter: Don't think that way. Forget about her. It’s not worth dwelling over. Ross: Then why are you outside? Carter: I don’t want to talk about it. (Carter walks back inside the ER. Ross is left standing alone against the wall.) SCENE ELEVEN (Int. Exam Room 2. Death is sitting up in a bed, his legs covered by a blanket. Benton is sitting in a chair beside the bed, holding a clipboard and pen.) Benton: So when did you first realize that you were Death? Death: Well, when I was younger and the world was new, I found that whenever I touched someone, they died. Benton: When was the first time this happened? Death: Well, there was this guy, I’ll say his name was Bob. I didn’t like him very much. So, one day while he was out gathering some berries from a field, I snuck up on him and touched him on the shoulder. He fell down immediatly and died. I was shocked at first, but then I realized that I had been chosen to be Death. Benton: (writing on the clipboard) Sounds very interesting. And this happens everywhere you go? Death: Yeah. I thought it was a fluke too. I thought I just scared him, and he had a heart attack or something, but later that day, I went to his house and touched his girlfriend, and she fell down dead too. Benton: Are you sure it’s not just a bit of bad luck. Death: (smiling) I can touch you. Benton: No, that won’t be necessary. (places clipboard on bed) I think I believe you. Death: Why shouldn’t you? Benton: Dr. Anspaugh has his reservations about you being Death. But I can talk to him, and tell him that you seem fit and sound. Death: Don’t you want to ask me to count to five or something? Benton: That won’t be needed, but if you want to, I’m not going to stop you. (smiles) Death: That’s okay, Dr. Benton. I’m not very good with numbers anyway. SCENE TWELVE (Int. office. Edson is standing, looking at empty boxes. Enter Gant) Gant: Hey, Dale, I heard about your transfer. Edson: (sad) Yeah. Antactica. It’s gonna be fun. Gant: How’s Carter taking it? Edson: (turns and looks at Gant) He’s mad at me, but I’m not surprised. I wish I’d never fallen for him. Then we wouldn’t be in this mess. Gant: (puts hand on Edson’s shoulder) You can’t help what you feel. Gawd! If that were true, us doctors would have a much easier time. Edson: (eyes get watery) Yeah. (laughs sadly) I guess you’re right. But what am I going to do? I can’t leave knowing that John’s angry. Gant: You’ll just have to talk to him. Edson: That’s what I was afraid of. Gant: I’m sure that everything will work out just fine. Edson: I wish I were too. (smiles, then faces the empty boxes again) SCENE THIRTEEN (Int. Doctor’s lounge. Greene is just about to leave. Enter Ross to stop him) Ross: So? Did you talk to Carol? Greene: Yeah, and it’s not so good news. Ross: (frowning) She is in love with Maggie, isn’t she? Greene: That doesn’t mean she doesn’t love you anymore. Ross: Do you think she does still love me? Greene: I’m sure of it. Just like I’m sure that I will never get married, I know that you and her have plety of years left together. (Ross steps into room and sits down) Ross: I don’t know Mark. It seems really strange. One minute, we are laughing and having fun together, and the next minute she is with somebody else. I don’t think I can take much more of this. Greene: Oh, stop it. You two will be together by the end of the day. Ross: You promise? Greene: Even if I have to use my charms on the lesbian, I promise. (Ross smiles disbelieving) SCENE FOURTEEN (Int. Exam Room 3. Donner is sitting on bed, and Jenner is sitting on a chair. Weaver is sitting on a chair opposite where Jenner is. She is holding Donner’s hand.) Weaver: There. That should take care of everything. Donner: (takes hand and looks at it) Thank you, Dr. Weaver. That thing has been bugging me ever since we left the Quadremine Sector. (glares at Jenner) And somebody got us lost. Jenner: Don’t blame me. I didn’t decide to take a left at Wenda Five instead of a right. That was all your doing. Weaver: Well, it’s a good thing you landed here on Earth. You got the best care anywhere in the Universe. Donner: (smiles at Weaver) Yeah. I guess you’re right. I thank you again. Jenner: But what about our ship? Weaver: Let me take a look at it. I might be able to do something about that too. (smiles) (Jenner, Donner and Weaver leave the exam room, and head towards the elevator.) Jenner: You know, Dr. Weaver, we can fix your leg. Weaver: It doesn’t need fixing. It works just fine. Donner: Then why do you use the crutch? Weaver: It’s a mystery even I don’t understand. (Donner and Jenner look at each other. The elevator doors open, and they all step inside) SCENE FIFTEEN (Int. Hallway. Doyle and Hath are sitting on chairs in an empty hallway. They are holding hands and facing one another.) Doyle: Carol. There is a reason I brought you up here. Hath: So we are not having sex. Doyle: (smiles) No. There is something I have to tell you. Hath: I could see it coming from a mile away. Doyle: You knew? Hath: That you’re an in-the-closet heterosexual? Of course. I see the way you stare at Mark every time he talks to me. Doyle: It’s that obvious, huh? Hath: It’s okay, sweetheart. I had something to tell you too. Doyle: I could see that coming like a freight train. Hath: It’s that obvious? Doyle: (laughs) I knew you couldn’t stay away from Doug Ross for more than a week. And you say he’s a sap. Hath: Hey! I’m a strong, independent woman. . . Doyle: (interupts) Who’s in love with a sweet yet sappy man. Hath: Yeah. I’m hopeless. Mark was right. Doyle: Mark is always right. Hath: You notice that too? Doyle: That’s why I like him so much. Hath: You do know that he isn’t one to commit. Doyle: Of course I know that. And who said I was? (Hath laughs and smiles. They share a look of knowing.) Hath: You do know that you’ll be known throughout the ER as a "failure from the King-of-One-Nighters". Doyle: Yeah. But who says I won’t get rid of him first. SCENE SIXTEEN (Int. Admin. desk. Lewis is cuddling Little Chloe in her arms. Enter Michael Jackson.) Michael: Hello Susan. Where’s my baby? Lewis: (almost in tears) You’re not going to take her away! I love this baby with all my heart! Nothing you can do or say will take her away from me! Michael: Stop this nonesense, Susan. You know I can give this baby everything she needs and desires: money, good food, clothes, an amusement park named after her, the Elephant Man’s bones. Whatever she wants will be hers. Lewis: She wants her mommie, and that woman is me! (Benton and Death approach Michael and Lewis.) Benton: What’s going on here? Michael: I’m here to take my baby back. Benton: Susan? I didn’t know that you slept with Michael Jackson? Lewis: Neither did I, but apparently I did. (Death looks at Lewis, then at Michael Jackson, then at Benton, and back to Lewis) Death: Don’t worry, Susan. I have found the man I came here to get. (puts arm around Micahel Jackson’s waist) Come, Michael. You and I need to chat. Michael: What about my baby? Death: Oh, don’t worry. Where you’re going, you will have plenty of babies to play with. (They begin to walk towards the front doors of the ER) Michael: Like an amusement park? Death: Something like that. (turns back and winks at Benton and Lewis) (Death and Michael leave through the doors. Benton turns to Lewis, who is holding Little Chloe with all her might) Benton: I don’t think you’ll have any more worries, Susan. Lewis: Why do you say that? Benton: Trust me. I think your problems are over. Take Little Chloe home and spend the rest of the day with her. You both deserve it. (Lewis does feel better, and smiles) Lewis: Thank you, Peter. You have a good day too. (leaves) Benton: (to himself) Now that Michael Jackson has met Death, I think this day will turn out better than I had hoped. SCENE SEVENTEEN (Ext. Roof. Jenner, Donner and Weaver are looking the spaceship over.) Jenner: Do you see what’s wrong? Donner: (from other side of the ship) Nope. Dr. Weaver? Weaver: I think I know what your problem is. (Jenner and Donner circle towards her.) Donner: What is it? (Weaver lifts her crutch and fwaps it against the side of the ship. Immediatly, the engine inside the ship starts to purr. Both Jenner and Donner hit themselves in the forehead.) Donner: Thank you, Dr. Weaver. Weaver: Just here to help. You have a good flight. And don’t get lost again. Jenner: We’ll try. But if we do get lost, mind if we crash here again? Weaver: Sure. Anytime. (Jenner and Donner slip inside their spaceship, and lift the ship off the ground. They wave at Weaver as she waves back. They disappear into the sky. Weaver limps back to the roof entrance.) SCENE EIGHTEEN (Int. office. Carter is sitting at desk, writing feverishly on papers. Enter Edson.) Edson: John? (Carter doesn’t look up) John, I just came here to say. . . Carter: Don’t go. (Edson stands, stunned. He doesn’t say anything. Carter stands, and steps up to him) Carter: Please, don’t go. (takes Edson’s hand) If the difference between you staying or leaving is me, I’ll change, I promise. Just don’t leave me. (begins to get teary-eyed) I’ve never cared about anyone as much as I care about you. I know, I’ve treated you horribly, but I won’t anymore. (tears are falling down his cheeks) Don’t leave me. I’m begging you. Please. . . (can’t continue, because of sobbing) (Edson stares at Carter, in total shock. He takes up Carter’s other hand) Edson: I’m not leaving. Carter: (looks up) What? Edson: (smiling) That’s what I came in here to say. I’m not going anywhere. I took your advice and stood up for myself. They said they’ll find somebody else. Carter: (wipes cheeks) You mean I lowered myself to your level for no reason? Edson: Yeah. Carter: I can’t believe you let me do that. Edson: Shut up. (kisses Carter on the lips) Carter: I hope I’m not starting to rub off on you, Dale Edson. Edson: You’re personality couldn’t rub off in the wash, John Carter. (They kiss again. Carter closes the door to the office while they are still kissing) SCENE NINETEEN (Int. Doctor’s Lounge. Ross is sitting at a table with his head down. Enter Hath) Hath: (softly) Wake up, Doug. Ross: (picks head up) Oh great, now I’m even starting to hear her voice while I’m awake. (Hath walks up to Ross and taps him on the shoulder. He turns around surprised. She takes a seat beside him) Hath: You’re not hearing things. Or seeing things. I’m really here. Ross: I thought we were through? Hath: Naw. I was just testing you. (she gives him an unexpected kiss on the lips) You passed the test. Ross: So Mark was right? You still love me. Hath: Don’t you hate it when Mark Greene is right? Ross: (smiles) Not when it’s about how much we belong together. (kisses her) Hath: Yeah. Me too. (kisses him) So where are we going tonight? Ross: I was thinking a romantic dinner at home. What do you say? Hath: Just as long as I get to pick the music. (smiles) Ross: (smiles back) Whatever you say, beautiful. (pauses, brushing her hair from her face) I will never stop loving you. Hath: And, as Mark said, I will never stop loving you either. (They kiss again) SCENE TWENTY (Int. Anspaugh’s office. Anspaugh sitting at desk. Enter Weaver) Anspaugh: (looking up) Where did you go off to? Weaver: I had to help some lost aliens with a hangnail and a spaceship. (Anspaugh stands and walks towards her) Anspaugh: Like I said, predictable. Everything here is old. Nothing is new anymore. Weaver: Well, what were you up to? Anspaugh: I met Death. Weaver: (puts her arms around his waist) Sounds like fun. Anspaugh: It was. (They stare at each other. Weaver brings her lips closer to Anspaugh’s. They kiss) Anspaugh: Now that was unpredictable. (They both stare into each others eyes and smile.) --FIN
